ALMADEN RESIDENCE New construction on a gently sloping, view site for a family of four was a unique challenge. The clients wanted much privacy from their growing children and a design which could be expanded with a space for in-laws at a future date. Minimal stairs were requested. The material palette was partly determined by the clients’ extensive collection of African art. The temperate climate led to a solution in which there are three separate pavilions connected by covered walkways with several separate garden areas, each with a unique use in mind. The master bedroom suite contains its own laundry with a very private garden area allowing for much floor to ceiling glazing. The future expansion would be in this area. Covered walkways lead to the main living pavilion designed as an open plan. The third pavilion is the children’s and guest wing and is the only area accessed by steps. The children share a Jack and Jill bath and laundry. Private patios are included for each room. Another patio and pool area is located off of the kitchen for barbecuing and entertaining. Water features abound in the planned landscape.
